This layers contains lakes, reservoirs, and rivers georeferenced as polygons.

Every two years, DEQ is required by the federal Clean Water Act to conduct a comprehensive analysis of Idaho's water bodies to determine whether they meet state water quality standards and support beneficial uses or if additional pollution controls are needed. This analysis is summarized in an "Integrated Water Quality Monitoring and Assessment Report" (Integrated Report), which is submitted to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for approval. The report serves as a guide for developing and implementing water quality improvement plans (total maximum daily loads, or TMDLs) to protect water quality and achieve federal and state water quality standards.

Many smaller and unassessed lakes were coded with the assessment unit of the waterbody outlet or inlet, thus may contain a support status attribute designated for the stream.  
Purpose:
The Integrated Report serves three functions. First, it is a reporting requirement of the Clean Water Act, so DEQ must prepare an Integrated Report to be in compliance with federal law. Second, it provides the public the opportunity to learn about and comment on the status of all of Idaho's waters. 

Third, the Integrated Report compiles environmental data and information from all components of DEQ's surface water quality program, as well as from other agencies, organizations, and individuals, which gives water quality managers a comprehensive look at the relative quality of all of Idaho's water bodies and helps them to set priorities and allocate resources accordingly.

Topology not verified, NHD-RIT events were converted to shapefiles, merged into a statewide shapefile and imported into ArcSDE Geodatabase SQL Server.  Flow or connectivity between subbasins not currently established.

Some lakes and waterbodies were attributed with a support status of the river or stream inlet/outlet and may not actually reflect the support status of the waterbody.  For additional information contact your local regional water quality officer.

Description: This metadata is displayed using the FGDC Plus Stylesheet, which is an XSL template that can be used with ArcGIS software to display metadata. It displays metadata elements defined in the Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM) - aka FGDC Standard, the ESRI Profile of CSDGM, the Biological Data Profile of CSDGM, and the Shoreline Data Profile of CSDGM. CSDGM is the US Federal Metadata standard. The Federal Geographic Data Committee originally adopted the CSDGM in 1994 and revised it in 1998. According to Executive Order 12096 all Federal agencies are ordered to use this standard to document geospatial data created as of January, 1995. The Shoreline Data Profile addresses variability in the definition and mapping of shorelines by providing a standardized set of terms and data elements required to support metadata for shoreline and coastal data sets. The FGDC Plus Stylesheet includes the Dublin Core Metadata Element Set. It supports W3C DOM compatible browsers such as IE7, IE6, Netscape 7, and Mozilla Firefox. It is in the public domain and may be freely used, modified, and redistributed. It is provided "AS-IS" without warranty or technical support.
