About INSIDE Idaho

INSIDE Idaho is the official geospatial data clearinghouse for the State of Idaho. INSIDE Idaho serves as a comprehensive geospatial data digital library, providing access to, and a context within which to use, geospatial data and information by, for, and about Idaho.

INSIDE Idaho was originally developed in 1999 by staff of the University of Idaho Library Government Documents Department under an Institute of Museum and Library Services Leadership Grant. In 2002, the Idaho Geospatial Committee recognized INSIDE Idaho as the State of Idaho geospatial data clearinghouse. Since then it has become an integral part of Idaho's geospatial community and part of the network for interagency and intergovernmental coordination, data sharing, information transfer, and electronic communication as it relates to geospatial data. INSIDE Idaho figures prominently in the State’s developing cyberinfrastructure plan.

The University of Idaho Library supports INSIDE Idaho by providing staff, administrative support, and infrastructure. INSIDE Idaho has received additional financial support via grants from the Federal Geographic Data Committee, NSF EPSCoR, USGS Cooperative Agreements, the US Bureau of Land Management Idaho Office, the State Board of Education Technology Incentive Grant Program, and the UI Sustainability Center.

INSIDE Idaho supports cooperation and collaboration across local, tribal, and state boundaries by serving as Idaho’s node for the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI), Geospatial One Stop, and The National Map.

Data made available through INSIDE Idaho are provided by data partners to encourage the widespread sharing of geospatial data, eliminate the creation of redundant data sets, and to further build an inventory through the development and hosting of metadata and services. INSIDE Idaho serves as a resource for locating data about Idaho through its data storage, web services and applications, visualization, and metadata efforts.

We would like to thank our many data partners and the geospatial community in Idaho. INSIDE Idaho would not be possible without the participation and support of the data providers, the Idaho Geospatial Office and its committees, and the University of Idaho.
